Sean, thank you for your vulnerability. We are in the same niche - writing to our sons. I hope he reads these letters too. As much as I would like for my to come across these someday, I realize I’m writing more for myself just as much as I am for him.

Givers. That is the word. Try to fix it, protect it. Blame ourselves if doesn't turn out the way we want. Givers.

Great writing on this, which is not an easy topic to address. I have had a post on this sitting in my drafts since the first week of my Substack. I keep coming back, removing entire sections only to retype them. It is a funny thing, that you can spend your entire life as something, and still find it extremely difficult to write about and explain.

Thanks for taking a stab at it, and doing quite well. I hope that those people making a good faith effort in this realm will be able to see that pay off through sons that are more self-aware and confident. Only time will tell, I suppose!

Receiving is done, just smile can be payment. The draining is giving, because it feels it isnt enough. We do it for loved ones or friends. We can't fix everything, but convince ourselves we can. Human nature, I suppose.
